Communications by the Mayor Minutes: The Mayor reported two feel-good stories, the first of which related to Rosie-May Alcock, an 8 year old girl living in Cheltenham who saw the news about Ukraine and wanted to do something about it. During the racing festival, she sang and danced for racegoers to raise money and collected more than £1700. The Mayor invited her for breakfast last week and handed over the money to the priest of the Ukrainian church in Gloucester. She was an inspirational person and he was proud to have met her. He added that Cllr. Wilkinson had recently invited him along to watch Cheltenham Town Ladies play at Cirencester, where they beat Chesham 3-1 and were promoted as champions to the FA Women’s League National Premier Division. A few days later, they won the FA Trophy cup final to secure a double. As well as being excellent footballers, they were real role models and a credit to the town, and he hoped they would be able to secure sponsorship that would help them move back to Cheltenham from Cirencester. |
|
Communications by the Leader of the Council Minutes: The Leader thanked the Mayor for his year of service as the town’s first citizen, and hoped that he had enjoyed the role and could take a well-earned rest next year. She reiterated her thanks to all those who were standing down in May for their commitment to democracy and public service, and wished everyone standing for election all the best. She added that she had met with the Police and Crime Commissioner, MP and relevant county council Cabinet Member to look at the wider picture of safety in the town, as promised in her last briefing. Finally, she reported that a member briefing from Martin Stacy on the topic of sponsorship and homes for Ukrainian refugees would be circulated shortly. |
