Decision details
Revised Licensing Policy, Guidance and Conditions for Private Hire and Taxis for public consultation.
Decision Maker: Cabinet Member Safety and Communities
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Decision:
To approve the revised Licensing Policy, Guidance and Conditions for Private Hire and Taxis for public consultation.
Reasons for the decision:
The authority’s policy was adopted in 2021. There has also been an interim review during that time (2023) with regards to vehicle requirements. A review of the policy has been undertaken and a consultation was carried out in Summer 2024, however due to staff changes the work has not been completed. A further review has been conducted with the licensing team and a further consultation needs to be undertaken on the policy review and proposed changes.
Alternative options considered:
Consultation is a statutory requirement. Seeking adoption without consultation will place the authority at significant risk of legal challenge.
Other reasons / organisations consulted
A 6-week consultation will be carried out with the licensed trade and stakeholders in the Borough.
