Decision:
To provide Cheltenham Borough’s response to the Planning Reform Working Paper: Development and Nature Recovery consultation.
Reasons for the decision:
Government is modifying several aspects of the planning system. This included the new National planning Policy framework (NPPF) in December 2024. Further to the changes to the NPPF, this background paper is one of the specific topics which they are seeking views on.
A joint response was submitted to Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs aligning with the ongoing work with our partners Gloucester and Tewkesbury for the Strategic and Local Plan (SLP).
Alternative options considered:
Not responding to Government consultation would mean not having an SLP input on the proposed changes.
Other reasons / organisations consulted
The response was reviewed by the Cabinet Member for Planning and Building Control.
We provided a coordinated response by liaising with the ecologists and planners across the three SLP authorities, merged in one single document.
