Grant funding to Gloucestershire Nightstop

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Housing

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To award Grant funding to Gloucestershire Nightstop for a period of 3 years from April 2018 to March 2021, for the sum of £3,000/year.

Gloucestershire Nightstop provides short term emergency housing for young homeless people aged 16-25 through co-ordinating stays with host families throughout Gloucestershire. The length of stay for individuals will vary from a few days to a number of weeks, depending on the circumstances of the individual and the availability of host families.

Reasons for the decision:

The work of Gloucestershire Nightstop supports Cheltenham Borough Council’s outcomes to prevent homelessness for young people and provides suitable accommodation through host families on an emergency basis which is often an alternative to Bed & Breakfast accommodation for many young people. This service supports best practice in ensuring that alternative emergency housing solutions are found for young people in a safe, family environment. It also supports our new duties to prevent homelessness for all, regardless of their priority need status, under the Homelessness Reduction Act

The work of Gloucestershire Nightstop also supports Cheltenham Borough Council’s draft Housing & Homelessness Strategy 2018-2023 regarding the prevention of homelessness.

This will be funded from existing budgets.
