Decision details

Planning permission from both Tewkesbury Borough Council and Cheltenham Borough Council is required before construction of the new facilities can begin. The new crematorium will improve the service offered to mourners and those officiating at funerals. It will sustain the current ambience of the cemetery and reduce the environmental impact of cremating, whilst maintaining the service’s contribution to the council’s financial strategy.

To submit a planning application to Tewkesbury Borough Council and Cheltenham Borough Council for a new crematorium, including parking and a new access road.

The only alternatives are not to submit a planning application, or to defer submission. Either of these alternative options will delay the determination of the planning application and hence the improvements to the service.

Consultees are supportive of the proposed decision.

Consultation with the Cabinet Member for Clean and Green Environment, the Head of Property Services and members of the Crematorium Development Programme Board.

Submission of the planning application will itself lead to formal public consultation on the proposals
