Decision:
To enter a contract with Fire Proof Window
Company Limited to supply and install 76 fire rated windows at a
costs of £136,480 plus VAT.
Reasons for the decision:
Following Fire Risk Assessments, a number of
windows in housing blocks were highlighted as a fire risk because
they did not have the appropriate rating to stop fire spreading.
The Council does not have a contractor to carry out the manufacture
and installation of fire rated windows, which is a specialist role.
The glazing company used for standard fittings, are unable to
supply fire rated windows.
Replacement windows with the correct safety ratings are required as
a matter of urgency to ensure the safety of our tenants. These are
not standard windows and therefore need to be manufactured by
specialist contractors.
A search of contractors was carried out and three specialist
contractors provided estimates which ranged between £137,000
and £240,000. The price from FPWC - Fire Proof Window Company
Limited was the lowest from an appropriate specialist contractor
with ability and capacity to carry out the work.
Alternative options considered:
Tenant safety is a priority and therefore no
other options have been considered.
