To accept grant funding via Local Authority Air Quality Improvement project funding initiative
Decision Maker: Head of Public Protection and DEPLO - Louis Krog
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Decision:
1.To accept grant funding of £4,000
being awarded to Cheltenham Borough Council from Gloucestershire
County Council via its Local Authority Air Quality Improvement
project funding initiative.
2.To accept the grant in accordance with the grant agreement dated
28th January 2025
Reasons for the decision:
In our Air Quality Action plan, action point
22 we gave a commitment to deliver a school’s air quality
education and awareness campaign. We began implementing this in
September 2023 with the employment of an air quality education
projects officer on a 3-year fixed term contract, funded from
repurposed contain outbreak and management fund (COMF), supported
by the Director of Public Health.
We also gave a commitment to review education and enforcement
initiatives around preventing pollution caused by stationary idling
vehicles in ‘hot spots’ and around vulnerable
individuals.
Following submission of an expression of interest by this Authority
to Gloucestershire County Council in October 2024 we have received
provisional information that we will receive a £4,000
contribution towards this air quality project. This is subject to
the Authority committing £2,000 to the project. This
contribution will be secured from the residual COMF funding.
The project will commence in April 2025. The grant will be payable
by Gloucestershire County Council as detailed in the grant
agreement.
