Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Safety and Communities

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Reasons for the decision:

Many local families are struggling to cope with the financial challenges caused by the cost of living crisis. Cheltenham’s amazing network of community food providers are working hard to support families but are struggling to meet the increase in demand in the face of a declines in food and cash donations.

Between CBC and #FeedCheltenham we have created a shared post to support the resilience of local families and the community food projects that support them through the joint approach set out by #feedcheltenham and inspiring families.

Objectives:

For community food providers the shared project lead will:

·         Coordinate the community food network that brings

·         Identify opportunities for food providers to reduce costs eg through more effective joint purchasing

·         Identify opportunities for more collaboration and sharing of expertise.

·         Identify opportunities for fund-raising,

·         Encourage donations of food

·         Support communications and marketing across the community food network

For Inspiring families, the project lead will connect with and work alongside families in Cheltenham to help them create strong and positive networks, make informed choices and to act on the things that matter to them and that will support their wellbeing.

The project lead will also lead on collaborative projects on food education, nutrition, affordability and good health.

Due to the importance of this joint work to support the resilience of local families and the community food projects, I have therefore agreed a grant of £15,000 to support #FeedCheltenham to recruit the shared worker.
