Contract with Toyota GB Ltd for supply of 2 x small electric panel vans

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To award a contract to Toyota GB Ltd for the supply of 2 x small electric panel vans, to be delivered asap in sum of £23,780.39 each plus VAT, plus £55.00 each for the first registration fee.

Total capital expenditure:  £47,670.78, including the current OZEV government grant of £2,500.00 per vehicle purchased.  This grant can be removed at any time.

Reasons for the decision:

Ubico, on behalf of Cheltenham Borough Council, operates a number of small panel vans to deliver services across the borough.  On this year’s capital replacement plan, there are two small internal combustion engine vans, a Vauxhall Combo [registration number VF55 SYX] and a Ford Transit Connect [registration number VE54 UZH] due for replacement.  VF55 SYX has already been disposed of as it was beyond economical repair.

These vehicles have both been identified as being suitable vehicles to be replaced by electric vehicles which are available on the market at this time.  Unfortunately a previous award for two electric vehicles was cancelled by a different manufacturer.

Alternative options considered:

Officers have considered whether the service could continue to be delivered without these vehicles and concluded that it could not.

Other reasons / organisations consulted

Officers and the Cabinet Member Waste, Recycling and Street Services agree there is a need to procure the vehicles.
