Upgrade of fire alarm system at Swindon Road Depot
Decision Maker: Director of Finance and Assets and Deputy Section 151 Officer - Gemma Bell
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Decision:
To instruct A&E to carry out essential H&S related works, to upgrade the whole of the Swindon Road Depot waste & recycling centre with a full fire evacuation procedure as part of our health and safety compliance checks.
After a recent site visit by A&E, it was highlighted that improvements could be made to the fire alarm systems at the Depot.
A quotation to upgrade the current fire alarm system was requested from A&E.
The decision made was to instruct A&E to upgrade the current system and the full fire evacuation procedure. A&E have been carrying out servicing and maintenance of the alarm systems for CBC for a number of years and are believed to be both specialists and have a proven track record for delivery on time and budget.
Reasons for the decision:
In allowing A&E to proceed with the works as quoted to ensure the H&S of personnel on site and to ensure operations are not affected and the service is able to deliver their usual business.
Alternative options considered:
To go down the usual CBC tendering/ procurement route which will cause delays and risk compliance issues if an element of the current system fails in the meantime.
