Purpose:

Gloucestershire Action of Refugees and Asylum Seekers (GARAS) work with a range of agencies to inform and raise awareness of the issues facing those seeking asylum in the UK and also provide ongoing support and advice to refugees and asylum seekers within Gloucestershire. This involves provision of a weekly drop in service in Cheltenham and includes information, advocacy & advice on health, housing, benefits, immigration, law, education, employment, counselling provision for those suffering the effects of trauma and ensures that refugees and asylum seekers are getting the appropriate support.

Reasons for the decision:

Gloucestershire Action of Refugees and Asylum Seekers (GARAS) work with a range of agencies to inform and raise awareness of the issues facing those seeking asylum in the UK and provide crucial ongoing support and advice to refugees and asylum seekers within Gloucestershire.

 

This supports two key outcomes of Cheltenham Borough Council’s Housing, Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2018-2021 which are to prevent homelessness and improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.

 

This grant will be funded from existing budgets.
