To sign on behalf of CBC the A46 Partnership Statement of Commitment

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Cyber, Regeneration and Commercial Income

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decision:

To sign on behalf of CBC the A46 Partnership Statement of Commitment.

Reasons for the decision:

CBC was invited to join the A46 working group as a result of the collaborative work with the Joint Core Strategy partners. The A46 has significance for Cheltenham given its connection at J9 of the M5 and also at Toddington hands where it joins the A435 via Bishops Cleeve. The wider working group is seeking a holistic solution to the challenges and growth identified along the corridor and all members of the partnership have been requested to lend their support for a wider collaboration with ‘Midlands Connect’.

Alternative options considered:

Other alternatives include each authority pressing its own case which even if successful will result in piecemeal improvements along this strategic artery. A joined up collaborative strategic approach representing all authorities is by far the most prudent as it will give a single voice to government.

Consultees

The key active members on this group are Councillor McKinlay and Jeremy Williamson.

As the A46 route mentioned lies outside of the Borough, CBC is simply providing strategic support; no direct public engagement has occurred to date but is envisaged as the campaign to secure upgraded status for the corridor progresses through the work of Midlands Connect.
