Granting of Easement to Western Power

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To grant Western Power an Easement along the route marked and a transfer of land totalling 16m2 for an electricity substation for the total of £1. This is to enable the proposed new crematorium to receive a power supply.

Reasons for the decision:

Enables the new crematorium to receive a power supply. Other alternatives could leave the Council responsible for the supply and the infrastructure.

Alternative options considered:

A Wayleave to house the electricity infrastructure-this would leave the infrastructure for the Council to manage and maintain, specifically around the substation. The Housing would belong to Western Power but the rest would remain with the Council. The Council do not have the expertise to manage such equipment in-house and it is an unquantifiable ongoing management and maintenance liability. Agreeing an Easement and Transfer ensures the liability remains with the industry experts.

Other reasons / organisations consulted

Cabinet, Project Team members and the Project Sponsor Mike Redman.

Agreement of the proposed course of action. Supportive of the decision.
