Approve the Discretionary Council Tax Energy Rebate Scheme

Phase two

Reasons for the decision:

On 3rd February 2022 the Government announced a package of support to help households with rising energy bills. This included a main scheme discretionary scheme.

 

Cheltenham has been allocated discretionary funding of £162,450 to support those  suffering financial hardship as a result of the rising cost of living, but not eligible for the main council tax energy rebate scheme

 

On 5 April 2022 Cabinet authorised the Executive Director Finance Assets and Regeneration, in consultation with the Cabinet Member Finance and Assets to determine the scheme details.

 

Due to limited funding the scheme will be made available to households in phases

 

The scheme is updated to

 

           Add Phase two to section 3 making the scheme available to more households not eligible for the main scheme and offer a top up payment to some households eligible for certain welfare benefits

           Add  closing date of 30 September 2022 for applications to be made in respect of phases one and two
