Cheltenham Paint Festival 2018

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Safety and Communities

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decision:

To allocate a small grant of £2,000 to support the running of the 2018 Cheltenham Paint Festival

Reasons for the decision:

The Council has been asked to make a financial contribution to the Cheltenham Paint Festival taking place on the weekend of 8th and 9th of September 2018. The financial contribution will be used to support accommodation costs for 50 artists and to support the purchase of paint supplies.

This will be second time that the Paint Festival has taken place, the first event, held on 9th and 10th September 2017, was recognised as having an extremely positive impact with around 18 large public art pieces left as a legacy of that event. Very few of these artworks have been vandalised or tagged, which recognises the respect by these artworks have been received by local residents.

Due to the success of the 2017 event, and the ambitions of the organisers to make the 2018 event even more participatory and engaging, I am recommending that the council awards a small one-off grant of £2,000 towards the 2018 event.
